Ephemera's Good Contrivance Farm Residency 3.0
Up to 2 awardees selected. 1-week stay. $200 stipend.
Good Readers,
We’ve teamed up with Good Contrivance Farm for a 3rd time! We’re sponsoring up to two (2) writers each for a 1-week stay and a travel stipend to the Good Contrivance Farm Residency in Maryland. (See below for more photos)

$200 stipend

The farm is a lovely place and we support their ethos and the folks who run it. Ephemera understands how difficult it is to find time and a place to write, and we hope the residency will help up to two enterprising writers.
Applications open June 30.
The early deadline for application is July 31, 2024.
Final deadline is August 31, 2024.
Please ready your work and submit early.
Selection(s) will be made by mid October and will be viable for 1 year.

“The retreat exceeded my expectations and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Everyone was accommodating and I was comfortable from the start. I also like that stores and nature preserves are nearby. I felt far removed from society but still close enough to get anything I needed. It was just wonderful. I wrote a lot, mostly prose, which was surprising, but it gave me the confidence to keep going with my poetry as well and I made good headway into my poetry collection. The tiny home had everything and it was nice to slow down and write.”

NOTE FOR PAID SUBSCRIBERS: Subscribers at the founding level or “Creative Genius” level can apply for the residency for free as a component of their membership benefits. Yearly subscribers who’ve subscribed at the full rate can apply for free as well. Discounted yearly subscribers can apply at a discounted rate (We’ll send a private link). All other paid subscribers are subject to the fee, although, should any paid subscriber be selected, they will be reimbursed their application fee in addition to receiving the $200 stipend.
What’s unique about our contest is that the chosen writers will have the option to schedule a week’s stay at their convenience at any time within 1 year of receipt of the award. We hope to allow for maximum productivity and to be as helpful as possible in setting up the residency in this way. (Please note, some rules and restrictions apply).
While the residency will be self directed once you arrive, we’re happy to provide suggested reading and or exercises upon request. The farm offers their own classes and retreats throughout the year.
Hen House Cottage, where awardees will be staying!
Ephemera will base our selections on writing samples submitted to the contest (according to guidelines found here) and the optional personal statement. We will read submissions blind. Also we follow CLMP contest standards. We're looking for great, clever, polished work that shows promise and a love for craft!
For more information, please click through to our submittable page.
