Good Readers,
We ask you to consider becoming paid subscribers to help support our burgeoning newsletter. As a part of becoming a yearly subscriber, we’ve provided what is hopefully a very enticing incentive: We would like to introduce The Write In Residency, which officially launched with our subscription drive. Please scroll down for the full details on the Residency. Quickly, we will run it 2x per year. Yearly subscribers will be able to apply for free. Our next residency application period will begin in December 2023.
We hope that by working very hard these past 24 months (somehow that’s nearly 100 issues!) to provide useful industry info, intros to new magazines, awards, vetted and timely job openings, a unique style of artistic analysis linking visual art and music with how to conceive of creativity within our own art and writing practices, as well as interesting asides, products, and of course our punchy inspiration “rants,” that all of our efforts have earned your interest, intrigue, and trust.
We will continue to do good, to coalesce relevant literary ephemera into this letter. By going paid on Substack, if we hit our benchmarks, we’ll be able to hire series and column editors to help with expanding our coverage of the writing and inspiration world:
we’re thinking of Ephemera-style book reviews & author interviews
artist and musician interviews
personal job/submission reminders
building a community space for discussion and prompts
specially crafted white papers on an essential skill
deep-dives into a story or poem from veteran and/or up-and-coming writing minds
other miscellany (maybe Ephemera’s own classics line).
We’re very excited for this and appreciate everyone who has kept up with us! Thank you kindly. In times of isolation, it is really meaningful to hear such positive feedback, to receive a like, just to see how many opens our letter gets (thousands!). Our readers, this community, is sustaining.
We’re constantly endeavoring to bring more accolades, more opportunity to writers, to democratize the space so to speak. Subscribers who join our yearly plan will be invited to submit to The Write In Residency for free, which will run 2x per year according to the details and rules here ($50 value). There will be other perks and benefits, apart from being able to receive the full version of every newsletter and our exclusive expanded content.
Monthly subscribers will receive full access to every newsletter and can convert to the yearly plan, applying their already spent monthly rates toward the yearly cost at any time (refund takes effect at the end of a 12 month period).
We will bring more perks and benefits as we go and will post about these updates and all offers in a clear and transparent manner in designated posts for your reference.
Monthly: $5 (Submit free to Poetry @ Ephemera—$10/month value)
Yearly: $74 (2 free submissions to The Write-In Residency—$50 value)

Joni Marie Iraci: I'm thrilled to be part of this new venture. Thanks for all your efforts. We as writers need to help each other out and stop being so cut throat and competitive (my experience in an MFA program.) Ephemera is so welcoming and every newsletter starts out with a thank you that is just so kind. Love you all, already.
Hi! I'm interested in the Write-In Residency program, but before I subscribe, I must inform you that I'm nomadic and working remotely. Would you be willing to send my books to an address in Europe, should I win? And also, since I'm working remotely, the "upgrade of my writing space" would be more of a technological nature: my lap top is as old as Fenway Park. That wouldn't make for much a before-and-after picture, sadly. Would either of these be problematic?
